Monday, August 23, 2010. A group of tourists from Hong Kong and some Filipinos met their terrible fate. According to Yahoo News at least seven were killed. A retired Police officer Rolando Mendoza who was armed with an M-16, held these tourists in a bus as hostage. It took the Police 12 hours to end up in an epic failure, by nightfall everything went beyond their control. Hostage taker was killed and civilians were killed. It is simply tragic and amazingly stupid on the part of the police.
I do not understand why it has to take them half a day of negotiation to achieve nothing. If I were to ask, Filipino police are complete bunch of brainless idiots who could not think of nothing else but arrogance and corruption. Oh yes they are great in corruption. The BEST example of corruption you will see in the Philippines aside from the former Presidents. They were only against ONE INSANE MAN, and they were unbelievably incompetent that they could not handle just one man. So what was the negotiation for? They could've just given them what the hostage taker wanted for the sake of the civilians safety and dealt with the criminal afterwards when civilians are safe. But no, they had to be "action stars", there had to be bloodshed to make it dramatic with these unfit policemen to feel like heroes where now, in my opinion are the criminals themselves. Were they really thinking of the people's safety or were they thinking of their image? Now, I completely doubt the training that the SWAT team undergoes. Or maybe they never had training? All they did was pay their way into it, because that's what they are experts at --doing monkey business. Forgive me for my rudeness but I am totally ashamed and at rage with the Philippine Police.
As for the hostage taker, it's amazing that he proved ONE person can make a difference. Just one person, and the whole nation has to suffer for his deeds. I could not blame him alone. Rolando Mendoza was agitated and emotionally disturbed. It was the police's duty to take control of him. But it was otherwise. Mendoza is now dead as well. Bless his soul, may he find peace despite of what he did.
The Philippines is experiencing a slow death. I read somewhere in Facebook that 500 trips to Philippines from Chinese were cancelled, and 800 more from Europe. And Philippines was tagged by CNN as the worst country to go to. (As said by someone I saw on a CNN page) Here, Philippines who was once a great country, the first in Asia who ever developed is now speeding it's way down to the rubbles. I am addressing these not just to the government but to everyone of us, FILIPINOS, PLEASE DO SOMETHING. Do not add up to the humiliation that is already there.
What happened about the hostage taking earlier is a concoction of successive stupidities. Everything has to take part. You cannot blame one person. It is a series of mistakes from different parties which resulted a great disaster. It has been done, and cannot be undone. What to do? LEARN from it. NEVER LET IT HAPPEN EVER AGAIN. We must stop blaming, there is nothing that can be solved by blaming . To the government, do something immediately. We should learn from this and make sure that THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. As I've seen, hostage taking has been abused in our country --something must be done about this. And our officials unfortunately are not fit to handle this situation. They are not educated enough. Government, please educate the people. This is something we must do. People have died and there is nothing we can do to bring them back. It's sad that they had to die for us to open our eyes. Please Filipinos, open your eyes. We do not need to blame anymore, we must face what happened and come up with a SOLUTION that will END these happenings from reoccurring.
And to the families who have lost their loved ones, we are terribly sorry. In behalf of my country and my country men, we are terribly sorry and we are saddened about your loss.

While reading your blog, my tears came rolling down my face. I felt so sad, angry and ashamed of what is happening in our coutry. However, that traumatic incident has already happened but the pain still lingers on with those family who lost their loveones because of one psychopath with criminal mentality scaffolded within the irresponsible and reckless handling of the case especially the safety of the innocent hostages. Yes... we Filipinos must do our part to save and strengthen whatever is left in the ruins.
As Ive expressed in my previous comments "Responsible education is the key for us to move forward". And now, this bloody scene has to happen again to remind us that good judgement, critical thinking and crucial decision making is very important in times like this. And we can only be able to decide rationally and responsibly if we have good values in life which are mostly attributed to good education / training and the likes.
Something must be done ... URGENTLY! We can't just allow our country to sink into the quagmire of incompetent, inefficient hands of the police forces. Oh GOD save the Philipines!

I totally like your blog because I felt the same way as yours that many of us are being sorry of what our fellowman did to other nation. I just watched the sad homecoming of the people from Manila I almost want to cry for them. I mean imagine that? for only ONE person he can ruin the nationwide and now the two countries are having conflicts. Thanks for the other people that are understanding just like Jackie Chan that the case is isolated so others should not blame the Filipinos. Until now this issue bothers me especially because of our fellow filipinos that are OFW in HK. As I could hear that news some of them were discriminated.
