It's one of the rare days in Philippines that you'll see, there would be no traffic congestion, no noise pollution that everything is utterly quiet, towns almost turned into ghost towns because there are too few of people who are in the streets, and an amazing 0 crime record for a day. And when does this happen?
It happens when Manny Pacquiao has a fight.
LOL. But seriously, it was utterly peaceful that I couldn't even hear a tricycle on the street. Everything was so quiet. And almost everyone is at home watching Manny's fight.
Who is he anyway?
Manny Pacquiao, is a Filipino professional boxer and politician. He is an eight-division world champion, the first boxer in history to win ten world titles in eight different weight divisions. He is also the first boxer in history to win the lineal championship in four different weight classes. He was named "Fighter of the Decade" for the 2000s by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA). He is also a three-time BWAA and The Ring "Fighter of the Year" in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
Currently, Pacquiao is the WBC Super Welterwieght World Champion, WBO Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion)and is rated as the number 1 pound-for-pound best boxer in the world by several sporting news and boxing websites, including The Ring, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, NBC Sports, Yahoo! Sports and About.com.
Aside from being a boxer, Pacquiao has participated in acting, music recording, and politics. In May 2010, Pacquiao was elected to the House of Representatives in the 15th Congress of the Philippines, representing the province of Sarangani. He is the only active boxer to become a congressman in the Philippines.
So I think that's a handful of information from his own Wikipedia page. Lol. So I'm not totally blogging about him, but well yeah I do have that Filipino Pride. I mean, there's a handful of Filipinos to make it to a world record and one of my favorites is Lea Salonga. (Sorry Charice, you're really adorable but I really prefer Lea's voice prowess.) About Manny, well he started a humble beginning. Loosing a few fights back then before he became unbeatable. Every time Manny has a fight, it is quite expected he'd win.
I'm not against him or against anything, but I'm not a supporter either. I'm just amazed that he-- could bring all the Filipinos together around the world, be at peace and boost the Filipino morale. It's quite a feat to be able to do all those things in one day-- and Manny has done that couple of times already. It's amazing that once in Philippines, there was a day that has 0 crime rate, everything is so quiet and organized and everybody seemed to agree with each other and everybody is proud to be a Filipino. And it is something, that the President of the Philippines cannot do. Funny isn't it?
Congratulations Manny Pacquiao! You deserve your eighth crown! :)
